Job Description

MyOme is seeking an intensely organized and detail-oriented research data specialist to wrangle large, complex datasets to further our disease risk prediction models. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience converting the multitude of genomic data types and phenotype data sets into well-structured and maintained data sets that will be used in our R&D pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Build, curate and maintain a large database of genetic and phenotypic data

  • Identify and work towards accessing clinical cohorts relevant to disease risk prediction models

  • Extract and parse data from a variety of online databases into standardized formats to maintain accessibility and utility for internal bioinformatics pipelines

  • Establish quality control metrics for external data that meets internal guidelines

  • Work with our research team to build models that predict disease from whole genome sequence data

  • Contribute to a supportive atmosphere of collective learning and development.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in bioinformatics, data science, computer science, or data-oriented field

  • Experience with R and/or Python, and working with genomics related packages

  • Comfortable working in Linux environment

  • Hands-on experience working with diverse genetic (array, sequencing) and disease data

  • Familiarity with bioinformatics methods such as plink, bcftools, samtools, etc.

  • Understanding of data harmonization concepts between heterogeneous sources

  • Familiarity with genetic databases (UKB-RAP, dbGaP, NCBI, GEO, etc.)

  • Pluses: familiarity with AWS, database experience, schemas, Nextflow

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to people outside of your field

  • Ability to thrive in a nimble start-up environment with changing priorities

  • Learning mindset

  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary team (bioinformaticians, ML scientists and statisticians, engineers, genetic counselors) to meet data needs 

Location, Compensation, and Benefits

Location: Remote or Hybrid; Menlo Park, CA

Compensation: $60-75/hour depending on experience
