San Francisco, CA
Work Type: Full Time

About MyOme

MyOme's mission is to provide clinically-actionable genetic information to patients throughout their lives. To achieve this goal, we combine clinical-grade sequencing, advanced methods for genome interpretation, and easy portals for doctors and patients to order tests and access results. We firmly believe that patients own their data, and we empower them to share that data however they choose. We are led by seasoned entrepreneurs and scientists, and backed by an elite group of investors.

Job Description

MyOme is looking for a creative and pragmatic individual to lead our frontend design and implementation effort. This is a big position and a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about conceiving of frontend designs, who has the full-spectrum frontend experiences that are required to implement them without a dedicated designer, and who is comfortable with crafting a big picture while working incrementally toward that goal. The successful candidate will demonstrate an eagerness to engage in a broad frontend leadership: requirements gathering, mockups, fast prototyping and iteration, technical decisions, collaboration with the backend team, and frontend implementation. You will need to demonstrate an eye for good UX, smooth UI, and pragmatic execution. Ideally, you also aspire to grow a small team as needed.

Note: This position requires experience in developing modest UX/UI plans without a designer and implementing those plans with React and Typescript. We will consider only applicants whose resumes demonstrate this experience and who are able to be in the SF office at least 3 days per week. Applicants should consider submitting a short cover letter that elaborates on these requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end frontend development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to production deployment

  • Lead technical architecture decisions and establish frontend development best practices

  • Own UX/UI design and development by making stylistic decisions independently, creating intuitive interactions, and driving a cohesive visual experience. Work without a dedicated designer to define layouts, user flows, and aesthetics through rapid prototyping, user feedback, and iteration.

  • Implement and maintain quality standards through code reviews, testing protocols, and documentation

  • Mentor junior developers and cultivate a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture

  • Coordinate with backend teams to design and implement APIs that enable efficient frontend development

  • Contribute to agile development processes including sprint planning, retrospectives, and continuous improvement

  • Develop and maintain technical roadmap for frontend architecture and team growth

  • Balance quick wins with long-term technical sustainability

  • Lead frontend security, performance optimization, and accessibility initiatives

  • Manage relationships with external contractors and align their work with internal standards

Skills and Experience

  • No specific degree prerequisite. If you can do the work well and humbly, we want to talk with you.

  • 10+ years of frontend development experience with 4+ years leading small teams

  • Proven track record of building and deploying production-grade web applications

  • Experience with both content-driven sites (like public websites) and transactional frontends

  • Expert-level proficiency in modern frontend development, including TypeScript and frontend frameworks (React and Vue preferred)

  • Experience with state management solutions and frontend architecture patterns

  • Strong understanding of browser compatibility issues and solutions

  • Experience with responsive design and progressive web applications

  • Deep understanding of web performance optimization and debugging

  • Experience with modern frontend testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines

  • Comfortable with using and providing feedback on API design

  • Experience with HIPAA compliance and healthcare software, or other privacy-focused frontends

  • Strong visual and interaction design skills, with the ability to create elegant and intuitive UIs without a dedicated designer

  • Experience with design principles such as layout, typography, color theory, and accessibility

  • Familiarity with UX tools like Figma, Sketch, or wireframing tools (even if used informally for personal mockups)

Leadership Skills

  • Demonstrated experience leading small frontend teams (2-5 developers)

  • Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience mentoring junior developers and conducting technical interviews

  • Track record of successful collaboration with UX/UI designers

  • Ability to balance competing priorities and make pragmatic technical decisions

  • Experience with agile methodologies and sprint planning
