As a bioinformatics software engineer, you will combine your technical skills, modern cloud infrastructure, and bioinformatics expertise to write reliable, production-grade bioinformatics analysis pipelines to store, analyze, and utilize genomics and health information.
Build, test, and maintain a suite of robust bioinformatics workflows and analysis modules.
Work in a team to scope, define, and articulate solutions to complex computing and information management challenges at the forefront of modern bioinformatics.
Contribute to the architecture and operations of our computing infrastructure.
Contribute to a supportive atmosphere of collective learning and development.
As a well-rounded engineer, participate in all aspects of the development process and be interested in our mission.
No specific degree or field prerequisite. If you can do the work well and humbly, we want to talk with you.
Experience with workflow languages and systems, and ideally those used for bioinformatics and sequence analysis such as Nextflow, Snakemake, WDL, or CWL.
Experience working with bioinformatics databases, tools, and file formats relevant to biological sequence storage and analysis.
Excellent skills in Python and, ideally, familiarity with other languages.
Experience with modern software development (e.g. unit testing, CI/CD) and full-stack teamwork
Familiarity with Linux/Unix and cloud computing, such as AWS EC2, Batch, S3, EKS, Docker.
Ability to thrive in a nimble start-up environment with changing priorities. Know the difference between scrappy one-off code and production-grade code.
Location: Hybrid; San Francisco (near Montgomery BART) 3 days/week
Compensation: 130K-160K/year depending on experience; equity; and the following benefits:
